UPDATE: On Sept. 4, on a City Council floor motion by Councilman Rex Richardson, the Council approved raised its agendized $10,000 reward to $20,000, making a total offered-reward of $30,000 when combined with the County-offered reward.) The Council vote was (Aug. 31, 2018, 9:00 p.m.) -- Mayor Robert Garcia and the maximum of four joining Councilmembers (Mungo, Andrews, Austin, Richardson) have agendized an item for the Sept. 4 City Council meeting to approve a $10,000 reward for information to solve the murder of Fred Taft, shot to death July 21 while using a restroom during a large family gathering in ELB's Pan American Park. Likewise, L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn has agendized Sept. 4 Board of Supervisors approval of a $10,000 reward [agendized motion text] "in exchange for information leading to the apprehension and/or conviction of the person(s) responsible for" Mr. Taft's death. The two actions would produce a total offered reward of $20,000. The Mayor/Council agendizing memo states: LBPD "believes there is additional information available on the suspect that could be brought forward if a reward was offered. Additional details on the suspect could be valuable to the investigation." Supervisor Hahn's Board of Supervisors agendizing memo states: "The Long Beach Police Departments [sic] believes it would be beneficial to establish a reward, which may prompt reluctant witnesses to come forward and provide information to identify the individual(s) responsible for this crime."
