(Aug. 30, 2018, 1:10) -- The National Weather Service predicts perfect weather, with a sunny air temp likely in the 70s, for Saturday's Sept. 1 Los Cerritos Wetlands "Heron Hike" nature walk across the Marketplace Marsh.

The non-profit Los Cerritos Wetlands Land Trust (LCWLT) says it's a free 2-mile urban hike and a chance to learn about the history of land acquisitions in Los Cerritos Wetlands and see freshwater marsh habitats that few people have ever viewed...and participants will get a behind-the-scenes look at how wetlands and oil operations co-exist at Los Cerritos Wetlands.

LCWLT Exec. Dir.Elizabeth Lambe says:

Marketplace Marsh is an amazing feature of Los Cerritos Wetlands. Check it out for yourself. It's late in the summer so I am not sure if there will be water within Marketplace Marsh, but there are sure to be lots of interesting plants and animals to learn about along the way. Our tour is led by our partners, biologists and environmental educators from Tidal Influence who will lead participants on a walking tour that will take us to Marketplace Marsh on the City of Long Beach's wetlands and over to the San Gabriel River on property held by the Los Cerritos Wetlands Authority. We will likely come across great blue herons, as well as egrets and other water-loving wildlife.
