(Aug. 14, 2018, 8:50 a.m.) -- With recent allegations (reported here and here) that his Facebook pages (Mayor's office and "public figure" pages) "hid" comments by residents critical of his policies, LBREPORT.com notes that in April 2017, we reported that Mayor Garcia had blocked a LB resident who used the "@LBMayorsOffice" Twitter feed to urge him to veto a Council ordinance that would let the Mayor and Councilembers use their contributor-funded "officeholder accounts" to give campaign money to candidates they favor in races for various offices. A day after LBREPORT.com published our report, the resident who was blocked was "unblocked."

On April 23, 2017, LBREPORT.com reported that Mayor Garcia swiftly blocked a Long Beach resident from following or viewing the Twitter page "@LBMayorsOffice" after she Tweeted a message urging him to veto the ordinance narrowly approved (5-3) by the City Council (Aug. 18, coverage here) that would let the Mayor and Councilmembers use their contributor-fueled "officeholder accounts" to give sums to they favor in races for other LB, state or federal offices.

"Veto the ordinance @LBMayorsOffice @RobertGarciaLB @LongBeachCity," wrote @shiborigirl, adding "C'mon, you can do it!" and referenced a Tweet from LBREPORT.com citing an editorial titled "Mayor Garcia: Veto That Ordinance" at this link.

In response, @Shiborigirl received the following message: "You are blocked from following @MayorsOffice and viewing @LBMayorsOffice's Tweets."

A day after LBREPORT.com reported this, on April 24, 2017 @shiborigirl informed us (and we updated our report accordingly) that she was no longer blocked from @LBMayorsOffice.

@Shiborigirl fired back, urging other Long Beach residents to amplify the message and retweet her Tweet, stating "feel free to retweet this tweet that got me blocked from the @LBMayorsOffice 's twitter account. And come visit me in free speech jail!"

LBREPORT.com indicated at that time, and reiterates now, that we're interested in hearing from anyone who believes or has evidence they believe shows that their comments on any public official's social network pages were hidden, blocked or deleted.
