(Dec. 24, 2003) -- LBPD reports that on Dec. 23 at about 5:48 p.m., a 21 year old LB resident was fatally shot while standing in front of a residence in the 1800 block of Olive Ave. in the 6th Council district...barely a block from where a "Mile of Men" vigil lined PCH between Orange and Pacific Aves. on Dec. 20 to protest urban violence,
Police say that in the latest shooting, a suspect described as a male Black riding a bicycle approached the victim, Javier Isas. LBPD says its preliminary investigation indicates words were exchanged and the suspect shot at the victim several times, hitting him twice in the torso. Mr. Isas was transported to a local hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.
This latest killing took place barely 40 minutes after another shooting -- which police do not currently believe was related -- at 20th St. and LB Blvd. (also in the 6th district), roughly two blocks from the "Mile of Men" route. Police say two men in a car approached a man and asked where he was from before the victim was shot; he survived.
As previously reported by LBReport.com, shortly after midnight on Dec. 21, someone wiht a gun ran up to four males in 500 block of Walnut Ave. in the 2d Council district and fired shots at them. A 17 year old was struck twice but survived...and police say the crime will be recorded as a quadruple attempted murder.
