(December 23, 2003) -- LB Mayor Beverly O'Neill hasn't endorsed, and won't be endorsing, any candidate in the 8th district City Council race.
The message was conveyed to us by Ms. Diane Jacobus, political advisor to the Mayor, who contacted us this morning in that capacity from a payphone [LBReport.com comment: kudos on using the outside payphone, correct thing to do.]
We had reported on Dec. 22 that Mayor O'Neill endorsed the reelection of current 8th district Councilman Rob Webb. A flier for a November 20 fundraiser supporting Webb's re-election listed Mayor O'Neill as the event's "special guest."
Asked about the Mayor's attendance at that event, Ms. Jacobus said a number of people attended the event and the Mayor has no control over what's printed on someone else's announcement for an event.
As reported yesterday by LBReport.com, Ms. Rae Gabelich, founder of LBHUSH2, the grassroots group opposing expansion of Airport facilities and operations, has requested papers from the City Clerk's office that when filed will put her name on the April, 2004 ballot to challenge incumbent Webb.
8th district resident Terry Jensen has previously announced he is a candidate in the race.
