SH Councilman Wilson Withdraws From Democrat Assembly Primary: Too Many Nominating Signatures Invalidated

(December 16, 2003) -- After the L.A. County Recorder's Office invalidated several of his nominating signatures leaving him without the minimum necessary to file, Signal Hill City Councilman Ed Wilson has withdrawn from the Democrat primary campaign for the 54th District Assembly.

In a written release, Wilson indicated he had informed his primary opponent, State Senator Betty Karnette, of his withdrawl on Saturday (Dec. 13).

Wilson added that it was possible he would run again for the Assembly seat in two years.

Democrat Karnette, who is term limited as a state Senator, is seeking the Assembly post now held by Assemblyman Alan Lowenthal. Lowenthal, also a Democrat, is seeking the state Senate seat being vacated by Karnette.

Former Congressman and Assemblyman Steve Kuykendall, a Republican, is also seeking the Assembly seat...and has the early backing of the LB Area Chamber of Commerce.
