    Christmas Night Homicide, Area 14th/Peterson

(December 27, 2004, updated from Dec. 25 initial post) -- A homicide has shattered a peaceful Christmas night in the neighborhood just east of MacArthur Park.

LBPD Public Information Officer Greg Schirmer says that shortly before 9:30 p.m. on December 25, LBPD received a call of shots fired in the 1500 block of E. 14th St...and officers arrived to find a person down in the 1400 block of E. 14th St.

[update] The victim, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was identified as Gonzalo Gonzalez, 20, of LB. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

LBPD's preliminary investigation indicates that an unknown male suspect approached the victim and fired multiple shots at him. The suspect then fled the scene.

The motive is unknown at this time and anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call LBPD Homicide Detectives Richard Conant or Russ Moss at (562) 570-7244.
