(December 16, 2004) -- LBReport.com has learned that in recent weeks, a number of businesses along Atlantic Ave. in Bixby Knolls have been hit by commercial burglaries.
Following-up on a newstip from a reader [thank you, at mail@lbreport.com], LBReport.com has confirmed with LBPD that five Atlantic Ave. commercial burglaries took place between Wardlow Rd. and Del Amo Blvd. during November...and nine had already taken place by mid-December.
LBPD Public Information Officer Israel Ramirez said the burglar(s) commonly enters overnight by breaking a window, making entry and taking available property. He said LBPD took note of the increase in November and North Division has been alerted is taking the crimes seriously. He also urged businesses to take prudent measures, keep outside areas lit and visible property out of overnight view.
Officer Ramirez noted that alleys parallel both sides of Atlantic Ave. in the area...and LBPD would appreciate hearing of any suspicious activity in the alleys or along the streets in overnight hours.
8th district Councilwoman Rae Gabelich referred to the burglaries at the December 14 Council meeting and urged residents with cell phones to contact LBPD dispatch directly at (562) 435-6711 to report suspicious activity. At home, use 9-1-1
