"Operation Santa Paws" Delivers Toys & Treats For Animals At LB Shelter/SPCALA & Funds For Animal Support Groups In LB & Beyond
(Dec. 23, 2004) -- L.A. area media converged on LB's Pitchford Animal Village today to cover "Operation Santa Paws," the culmination of a toy/treat collection drive for shelter/rescue dogs and cats organized by LB animal advocate, dog-beach catalyst and internet omnipresence Justin Rudd.
Accompanied by volunteers, Mr. Rudd arrived dressed as "Santa Paws."
He brought dog and cat food, animal toys and supplies...
...and a check book, distributing goods and money to representatives of local animal support groups and shelters.
Inside SPCA-LA's facility, "Santa Paws" put additional gifts under a Christmas tree...and (check in hand) searched for an appropriate SPCA-LA official to whom to give the money.
He found Denise Jakcsy, Senior Director of Companion Animal Services for SPCA-LA...who was pleased to accept the gift.
Santa Paws also brought gifts for the animals...and this adoptable dalmatian enjoys a Christmas doggie treat.
This is the fourth year Mr. Rudd has used the internet (www.santapaws.info, one of his multiple websites) to encourage companies and groups to put cardboard boxes for a "drop box" in offices, pet stores, veterinarian offices, schools, churches, etc and encouraged animal lovers to buy a new dog or cat toy, treat or supply item...and also make donations.
In an emailed release, Mr. Rudd said:
Residents, businesses and organizations have spent the first three weeks of December collecting thousands of pounds of pet food, grooming products and chew toys for abused and abandoned animals housed in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Orange County, Valley and Santa Barbara area shelters and rescues including Rover Rescue, Boxer Rescue, Weimaraner Rescue, spcaLA P.D. Pitchford Companion Animal Village in Long Beach, Animal Assistance League of Orange County, Long Beach Animal Control, the Seal Beach Animal Care Center, Rover Rescue, the Dept. of Animal Care and Control in Carson, Rabbit Rescue, Harbor Shelter in San Pedro; North Central LA Shelter (3201 Lacy St., (serves: Northwest LA, Downtown LA, Hollywood Area); South LA Shelter (3612 11th Ave.), Laguna Beach Animal Shelter, Mission Viejo Animal Shelter, City of Irvine Animal Care, Friends for Pets Foundation (Sun Valley), Irvine Animal Shelter, Animal Avengers, DAWG (Dog Adoption and Welfare Group), the Santa Barbara Animal Shelter, South East Area Animal Control Authority (SEAACA), Lancaster Shelter, West Valley Shelter, Villalobos Rescue Center and Brittany Foundation in Auga Dulce; Carson SPCA, Hawthorne SPCA, PawdSquad.org, Karma.org and other shelters/rescues around the Southland.
After his LB visit, Santa Paws was scheduled to travel to the Seal Beach Animal Shelter and OC Animal Care Services.
Operation Santa Paws is part of Mr. Rudd's umbrella "Haute Dog" organization (pronounced HOT dog) which he describes as "a diverse and growing network of dog owners, lovers, educators, rescuers and supporters. Our common bond has resulted in a unique and lively community of folks who share some qualities of our favorite dogs: devotion, spirit and tenacity."
