(December 16, 2005) -- American Airlines has formally notified LB Airport of its intention to discontinue LB service effective March 2, 2006 (ending one of its five daily flights in Jan. 2006 and the remaining four effective March 2, 2006).
In an emailed release, the Airport indicates that per the LB City Attorney's office, under the terms of the 2003 Airline Settlement Agreement, one of the five slots relinquished by AA would automatically revert back to JetBlue. The Airport adds that JetBlue also has a letter on file indicating its desire to secure any commercial flight slots that might become available.
The Airport also says it received a fax on December 15 from Alaska Airlines, requesting five commercial flight slots.
LB Airport's statement says it "will continue to work with the City Attorney in regards to the final allocation of the five slots relinquished by American Airlines."
