News Wishing "Merry Christmas, Dissing "Happy Holidays": House Votes 401-22 For Resolution Encouraging Use & Protection of Christmas Symbols; LB Area Congressmembers Millender-McDonald & Rohrabacher Vote "Yes," Southbay's Harman Votes "No"
(December 15, 2005) -- As part an increasingly visible backlash against the neutered (and some say neutered) greeting of "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas," the U.S. House of Representatives voted today (Dec. 15) 401-22 (5 voting "present" and 5 not voting) on a non-binding House resoluton supporting use of the symbols and traditions of Christmas.
LB area Congressmembers Juanita Millender-McDonald (D., LB-Carson), Dana Rohrabacher (R., HB-LB-PV) and Linda Sanchez (D., Lakewood-LB) voted "yes"...but southbay Congresswoman Jane Harman (D., El Segundo) was among 22 House members -- all Democrats -- voting no.
