(Dec. 2, 2009, updated) -- LBReport.com has learned that the driver of the truck that collided from behind into a vehicle at Wardlow Rd./Bellflower Blvd. on Saturday night (Nov. 28) has passed away...and was John Talley, who had managed, coached and served on the board of the Lakewood Village Little League.
On Wednesday evening Dec. 2, the following statement appeared on the website of the Lakewood Village Little League:
The family of John Talley, a longtime member of our league who has managed, coached and served on the board, has said their goodbyes to him.
John was in a serious car accident Saturday, Nov. 28 and despite great medical efforts and his determination, was not able to recover.
Through our extreme sadness, we learned that Wednesday evening, Dec. 2, he was providing the ultimate gift of organs to help others. His family, including current Main Board secretary Myra Balcos-Talley and his sons who play and have played in our league, appreciates your prayers, thoughts and gestures at this very difficult time...
A family friend said in an email to LBReport.com: "He served his community as a fireman, loved coaching his two young sons in Little League and was friend to many."
An individual on scene shortly after the accident says Coach Talley got out of his pick-up truck and was talking with LBPD officers when he fell to the pavement.
LBPD is investigating the circumstances of the accident.
[update] The Lakewood Village Little League says services for Coach Talley are scheduled on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 1:30 p.m...at Cypress Church, 6143 Ball Road, Cypress, 90630. (714) 952-3001.
