  • (Dec. 2, 2009) -- On motion of Councilwoman Rae Gabelich, the Long Beach City Council adjourned in memory of Janet Deats on Tuesday Dec. 1.

    Mrs. Deats, wife to veteran community advocate John Deats for 40 years, passed away Nov. 22 following a lengthy, courageous battle against cancer.

    Mr. and Mrs. Deats were Grand Marshals at the 2006 Los Cerritos/Virginia Country Club Neighborhood Parade. Janet reached her 69th birthday in November...and will be laid to rest in her hometown of Comer, Georgia in the coming days accordance with her wishes.
