Foghorns Serenade Foggy Long Beach, And Seem Louder, Many Say

(December 30, 2011) -- As LBReport.com reported on our front page last night (Dec. 29), many readers in shoreline parts of Long Beach -- and extending some distance inland -- began hearing fog horns sounding in 7 p.m. hour (Dec. 29), extending into the 11 p.m. hour (and perhaps beyond).

Readers sent us dispatches via email (mail@LBReport.com) and on our Facebook page) on this...and several people remarked that the fog horns sound louder and/or different than they recall hearing in the past.

Comments include: "They [fog horns] are buzzin' like mad." "We have heard fog horns in different parts of the shore." "[From] ROSE PARK area, I have been hearing it for about 1 hour now [filed 8:55 p.m.] but I love to hear it." "Corona and Ocean. Pretty darn loud." Area 10th/Ximeno says "Loud and horns going off every 2-3 seconds" and "doesn't sound like a fog horn." From Traffic Circle area: "We were taking our nightly walk near the Traffic Circle and it was very foggy and we both commented on hearing the fog horns at about 8:30 p.m."

9:40 p.m.: "Yes, we've been hearing fog horns off and on this evening. 9:45 p.m.: "LB Airport has very thick fog. kind of scary..."

Reports on other individual Facebook pages indicate fog horns were heard as far inland as Signal Hill.

At predawn Friday (Dec. 30) we don't have any explanation for what readers say were louder, different sounding foghorns...and the only explanation we have for the foghorns is...fog. (ELB as far north as Wardlow Rd. and perhaps further north is socked in at 5:30 a.m. Friday).
