(Dec. 31, 2014) -- For the record, LBREPORT.com publishes below the names of the Sacramento lawmakers (Assembly and state Senate) who voted in Aug. 2006 for AB 32, the "Greenhouse Gas" cap and trade bill. The non-elected CA Air Resources Board is implementing the measure that was enacted by elected state legislators and signed into law by then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
LB's Dem state legislators all voted "yes" on AB 32. At the time, they were Assemblymembers Betty Karnette and Jenny Oropeza and state Senator Alan Lowenthal. Repubs voted "no." [Scroll down for further.] |
Supporters and opponents now both acknowledge that AB 32 will mean higher gasoline pump prices for consumers although there's no consensus on how much that will be. (The higher gasoline prices will likely also be reflected in higher costs for food and other items transported by truck that will be passed on to consumers.)
Consumer cost and tax increases of this nature are termed "regressive" since they are felt more intensely by the poor, working class and others least able to handle increased costs. AB32 supporters say the cost is a small price to pay to address global warming and say the changes ultimately incentivize the use of cleaner fuels. AB32 votes on final passage:
