(Dec. 4, 2014, updated 8:00 p.m.) -- As flashed on LBREPORT.com's front page earlier this afternoon, a coyote was sighted and reported on the campus of Newcomb Academy (K-8 school, north of Wardlow Rd. b/w Studebaker and El Dorado Park) at roughly 2:20 p.m. LB Animal Care Services Manager Ted Stevens says two of its officers were immediately dispatched to the scene and were able to respond in about 15 minutes. The Coyote was injured and was captured by LBACS officers. UPDATE: LBACS Mgr. Stevens says the coyote was injured before capture...which is why the ACS officers were able to catch it rather easily. FURTHER UPDATE: Mr. Stevens tells LBREPORT.com that the injured coyote was in poor condition and has been humanely euthanized. We're told [unofficially] that the animal was for a time near the Newcomb Academy basketball courts...and the school was put on a protective lockdown (children kept inside classrooms) for a time.
To our knowledge, no persons (adults or children) were injured. The school is in the area just east of Los Coyotes Diagonal...so named because the wild dogs have lived in the area for years. They prey on small animals...including pets left outside.
