(Dec. 19, 2014, 9:45 p.m.) -- L.A. County Fire Engine 30 happened to be in transit and spotted a fire in the East Long Beach Palo Verde/Willow area...and its crew headed straight to the scene, where they found a fully involved garage fire in the 2700 block of Josie Ave.
LBREPORT.com reader Thomas Sutfin captured the scene on VIDEO, embedded below with screen save stills also below. [Scroll down for further] |
L.A. County Fire Dispatch and LBFD Public Information Officer/Firefighter Brian Fisk both tell LBREPORT.com that L.A. County Fire's Engine 30 (normally based in Cerritos) happened to be in transit to cover Station 60 (in Signal Hill) when it spotted the fire, headed to the scene.
LBFD PIO Fisk says the first LBFD unit on scene was Engine 22 (from Station 22, 6340 Atherton St., roughly 1.45 miles from the fire site.)
The video appears to show that County Engine 30 was already pouring water when LBFD Engine 22 arrived. Videographer Sutfin says he estimates the first LBFD unit arrived roughly two to three minutes after the L.A. County Fire unit.
LBFD PIO Fisk says the cause of the fire is under investigation. Under budget reductions implemented by City Council majorities under Mayor Bob Foster and continued by a unanimous Council under Mayor Garcia, fire station 18 (Palo Verde/Wardlow) no longer has a fire engine (it has a paramedic response unit). It's roughly 1.02 miles from the fire site.
