(Dec. 3, 2014, updated 9:11 p.m. from 4:25 p.m.) -- A relatively isolated shower -- with an embedded intense storm cell -- brought part of Long Beach an additional roughly 0.30" of rain (ELB Palo Verde/Stearns / 0.23" (LGB) this afternoon.
Drizzle turned to rain at about 3:00 p.m...and the embedded downpour hit ELB from about 4:00 to 4:15 p.m. The privately operated KE6JDC weather station in the Palo Verde/Stearns area recorded rainfall at its height at a rate of just over 0.6" per hour...although the brief heavy downpour didn't last anywhere near an hour. The additional afternoon rain brought the total in the Palo Verde/Stearns area to 1.11" from the current storm. The total was a bit higher at LB Airport. [UPDATE] By 9:06 p.m., today's rain at Palo Verde/Stearns came to 0.51" bringing the storm total to 1.35" [end UPDATE] (Dec. 3, 2014) -- Yesterday's (Dec. 2) storm brought Long Beach roughly an inch of rain. 1.12" were recorded at LB Airport between 7:53 a.m. Dec. 2 and 6:53 a.m. Dec. 3 . The KE6JEC private weather station (Palo Verde/Stearns area) recorded 0.96" as a storm total as of 9:01 a.m. today (Dec. 3). The Nat'l Weather Service says there's a 50% chance of showers today and a 70% chance tonight...then on Thursday a slight chance (20%) of showers before 10 a.m.
