Win This And Support LBREPORT.com

LBREPORT.com is reader and advertiser supported. Support independent news in LB similar to the way people support NPR and PBS stations. We're not non-profit so it's not tax deductible but $49.95 (less than an annual dollar a week) helps keep us online.
(Dec. 24, 2014, 8:52 a.m.) -- We never thought we'd get rich with this, but nobody wanted the "Suja Lowenthal: Democrat for Assembly bag (with absolutely no endorsement or participation by her in any of what we're saying or doing here.) We'll save it...and possibly use it for shopping.

We still welcome your support for our independent news. Just use the PayPal link in the upper right corner of this page.

And if you're a Long Beach based business with specials or other products or services you'd like our readers to know about, just email us by clicking this email link. Let us know how best to reach you and we'll show you how easy and economical we are.

(Dec. 21, 2014, 12:45 p.m.) -- LBREPORT.com has a special offer for you. It's your chance to grab this "Suja Lowenthal: Democrat for Assembly" bag (with absolutely no endorsement or participation by her in any of what we're saying and doing here.) [It's not partly pinkish as our photo seems to show; that's our camera's poor pixeling; the bag is a consistent, pleasant off-white color background throughout.]

It's a memorable campaign item from this year's election cycle, presumably meant to remind voters that Suja Lowenthal was the leading proponent of banning plastic bags in Long Beach. Instead, it's a reminder that Councilwoman (now Council-chosen Vice Mayor) Lowenthal entered the June 2014 Assembly race, which she lost to fellow Dem Councilmember Patrick O'Donnell, after she'd entered and then dropped out of the 2014 Mayor's race.

The political outcomes for Lowenthal were difficult for her, and we're not making light of them...but if she had prevailed in either of her two 2014 quests for higher office, she would have imposed the roughly $200,000 special election cost that former Councilman and now Assemblyman O'Donnell has created by leaving his Council seat before its term ended.

LBREPORT.com can and does say things like this because they're true and we're independent. We're now in our 15th year and one of America's longest operating exclusively online local news outlets. We've grown because we're not an echo chamber for officialdom or a cog in some out of town regional corporate cluster. Our independence and detailed coverage (including "amnesia file" reports) plus extended video (and audio when newsworthy) of everything from breaking news to political debates to community events and parades are among the reasons LBREPORT.com has grown to levels that others didn't think possible (although we did.)

This hasn't been easy or costless for us. We rely on support from readers like you to help keep us going (similar to the way NPR stations do although support for us isn't tax deductible.)

We'll give the Suja bag to the first contributor who wants it and provides us with at least a $49.95 contribution via the PayPal link in the above right box on this page. We have only one of these bags, so it'll go to the first contributor who wants it. We'll announce that on our page here (and all decisions by us are final.)

If you miss out on the bag, and you'd still like to support our independent news, we've got you covered. All other contributors who support us with a PayPal contribution of at least $49.95 on or before 11:59 p.m. Dec. 31 will receive one of our very snazzy LBREPORT.com bumper stickers (or two or three; we'll ask you how many you'd like.) Just use the PayPal link in the upper right corner of this page.
