Costly Taxpayer Christmas Package? Councilwoman Price Reveals Council "Will Take A Final Vote On Whether To Build A New Civic Center" On Dec. 15; City Mgm't Continues To Stonewall Details For Now

Harbor Comm'n schedules closed session a day earlier (Dec. 14) to discuss "price and terms of payment for proposed Civic Center project."

(Dec. 5, 2015) -- In a Dec. 5 Saturday morning mass emailing (1 a.m. hour), Councilwoman Suzie Price acknowledges (but raises no objections to) another major item scheduled by City Hall officialdom for the heart of the holiday period:

"On December 15th, the City Council will take a final vote on whether to build a new Civic Center..."

To our knowledge, Councilwoman Price is the only incumbent to shed any light on the upcoming item that LBREPORT.com reported on November 24, when we spotted the following "reminder" buried near the end of the Dec. 1 Council agenda.

HEARING REMINDER:

Tuesday, December 15, 2015 -- Hearing to consider requests related to the proposed Long Beach Civic Center project. (Districts 1,2)

We asked LB's Development Services Dept. spokesperson: What is/are the subject matter(s) of the requests? She referred our inquiry to Mike Conway, Director of Economic and Property Development, who offered the following non-transparent response:

The subject matter of the requests will be included in the release of the agenda package which will occur on the standard timeline.

Management's "standard timeline" verbiage is impenetrable; it could be Monday Dec. 7 or as late as Friday Dec. 11 for a major item (or perhaps a collection of related items) that management knew by at least Nov. 24 (if not earlier) was timed for the heart of the holiday period.

Meanwhile, the Harbor Commission has agendized a session closed to the public and the press one day earlier, on December 14, citing CA Gov't Code section 54956.8 "for conference with Harbor Department negotiator Jon Slangerup to discuss price and terms of payment of the proposed Civic Center project. The City's negotiating party is Plenary-Edgemoor."

Further to follow.
