The White House scheduled the "My Brother's Keeper National Summit" which Long Beach Vice Mayor Rex Richardson, Neighborhood Relations Officer Tracy Colunga and FUSE Executive Fellow Veronica Njodinizeh attended. Vice Mayor Richardson was part of a panel titled "MBK Communities: Infrastructure and Impact."
President Obama announced what he called the "My Brother's Keeper Challenge" in January 2014 which LB City Hall added to its "violence prevention plan" by City Council voted action (motion by Richardson, Gonzalez, Uranga and Austin) in January 2015. In so doing, Long Beach joined about 200 cities nationally in steps that City Hall said are consistent with Obama administration policies that it says are meant to "measurably reduce youth violence by 2020." It's currently unknown exactly what the incoming Trump administration will do to continue or change or end the federal components of "My Brother's Keeper." The local components, implemented and approved by the Long Beach City Council, can presumably continue unless a future Council majority chooses to change or end them.
