(Dec. 24, 2016, 6:45 a.m.) -- In the second of back-to-back storms, LB Airport received 1.05" of rain between 3:53 a.m Fri. Dec. 23 and 3:53 a.m. Sat. Dec. 24. It wasn't a steady rain; in some periods the rainfall was intense. Data below is from the National Weather Service monitor at LB Airport (north of Spring St., west of Lakewood Blvd.)

In the six hour period between 3:53 p.m. to 9:53 p.m. on Friday Dec. 23, LB Airport received 0.61" of rain. This included a major downpour on Friday night that began between 8:53 p.m. and 9:25 p.m. with 0.14," followed by 0.25" inches within a 21 minute period between 9:25 p.m. and 9:46 p.m. Then came 0.05" within the next seven minutes to create a 60 minute total from 8:53 p.m. to 9:53 p.m. of 0.44". Another 0.28" fell between 9:53 p.m. and 10:53 p.m. with 0.13" more between 10:53 p.m. and 11:53 p.m.

Those totals followed a storm that spanned Weds. Dec. 21 into early Thurs. Dec. 22; within the 36 hour period from 3:53 a.m. Dec. 21 to 3:53 p.m. Dec. 22, the Nat'l Weather Service monitor at LB Airport recorded 1.23" of rain.

The bottom line: an impressive 2.28" of rain for the two storms recorded at LGB.

As of dawn Dec. 24, NWS forecasts a sunny Christmas Eve with a high near 60 and breezy NW winds from 10 to 15 mph with gusts as high as 25 mph. On the night before Christmas, LB's lows will range from 37 degrees (90808) to 43 degrees (90802).

Christmas Day in Long Beach is forecast to be mostly sunny and about 60 degrees...and the nearby mountains will have a White Christmas.
