(January 9. 2004) -- An LBPD pursuit through parts of western and northern LB before ended up Paramount where LBPD's SWAT team was summoned after the driver barricaded himself before surrendering to officers.
LBPD Public Information Officer Greg Schirmer says the events began on Feb. 8 at about 12:50 p.m. when west division patrol officers spotted a stolen vehicle near 15th St. and Pine Ave., tried to pull the vehicle over and the driver failed to yield.
After winding through parts LB streets, the chase moved onto the northbound 710 and eastbound 91 freeways until the suspect exited at Paramount Blvd. and headed north.
The suspect paused to speak with persons he apparently knew in the area of Alondra Blvd. and Georgia Ave. and officers began to conduct a high risk stop...when the suspect began driving again, this time to the 16000 block of Indiana Ave., where he then remained in his car and refused orders to get out.
Considering him a barricaded suspect, LBPD activated its SWAT team...but before they could fully deploy, the suspect gave up peacefully.
PIO Schirmer says the suspect, a 21 year old LB man, has a no bail warrant for a parole violation for domestic violence, was a named suspect in an assault with a deadly weapon charge. He will now be booked on charges of evading and for the allegedly stolen vehicle.
No one was hurt in the events which consumed roughly two and a half hours.
