(February 13, 2004) -- A 31 year-old man -- dressed only a shirt -- allegedly bear-hugged a 17-year old female in the 7100 block of Olive Ave., then led LBPD officers on a chase through a NLB neighborhood, at one point scaling a wall [presumably partly in the breeze] with officers in hot pursuit until he was apprehended.
LBPD Public Information Officer Greg Schirmer says the suspect was apparently scared off by the victim's screams...and what followed was a good colaberative effort with solid witness information and observant patrol officers.
The victim and a witness gave police excellent suspect and vehicle descriptions which aired on the police radio...and alert LBPD patrol officers spotted the suspect and vehicle.
PIO Schirmer says that after officers attempted to pull the suspect over, he led them on a short chase ending in a cul de sac in the 6800 block of Millmark Ave., then jumped out of the vehicle (recall, with only a shirt on), ran and scaled a six foot block wall with officers in pursuit.
Yes, they caught him.
The victim and officers were unhurt.
The suspect, a Compton resident, has been booked for attempted kidnapping with intent to commit a sexual assault as well as evading police.
