(Feb. 25, 2006) -- CA Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Feb. 24 announced the appointment of Randal Hernandez to the Board of Governors for California Community Colleges.
Mr. Hernandez, an ELB resident, was the Governor's Secretary in charge of appointments [appointed positions] from 2004 to early 2005, but exited in March 05 to pursue a run for Mayor of LB; he jettisoned the campaign in August 05. He's currently senior government relations executive for California for Bank of America.
Among the other currently listed members of the Board of Governors for CA Community Colleges is Debbie Malumed, spouse of state Senator Alan Lowenthal, whom Governor Schwarzenegger appointed last year.
The website for the Board of Governors says the body "sets policy and provides guidance for the 72 districts and 109 [community] colleges which constitute the system. The 17-member Board, appointed by the state's Governor, formally interacts with state and federal officials and other state organizations. The Board of Governors selects a Chancellor for the system. The Chancellor, through a formal process of consultation, brings recommendations to the Board, which has the legislatively granted authority to develop and implement policy for the colleges..."
The Gubernatorial-appointed gig pays $100 per diem and requires Senate confirmation.
