Horrifying Midnight Hour Crash, 4th/Cherry: Two Motorcycles vs. One SUV; One Motorcyclist Dies; Another In Critical Condition; SUV Driver Arrested

(Feb. 9, 2009, updated) -- Flowers and candles have appeared at the corner of 4th St/Cherry Ave. following a horrifying crash at about midnight Sunday Feb. 8 that left one motorcyclist dead and a second motorcyclist critically injured.

LBPD says officers responded at about 12:00 a.m. and a preliminary investigation revealed that the victims, both LB residents, were traveling westbound on 4th St. at Cherry Ave. on their motorcycles when they entered the intersection on a green light. "Upon doing so, they collided with a burgandy 2001 Chevy Tahoe traveling southbound on Cherry Avenue entering the intersection against a red light," LBPD says in a release.

LBFD responded and transported David Golz, 29, to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead due to major head trauma.

James Culver, 31, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition with head trauma.

LBPD says witnesses followed the 2001 Chevy Tahoe to the area of 3rd St./Pine Ave. and called police.

Officers arrested Brenda Rossal, 28, of LB, for allegedly leaving the scene of accident, running a red light and being an unlicensed driver.
