(Feb. 17, 2009) -- LBReport.com has extended photo coverage of the recent storm below, captured by Dale Brown (SinktheBreakwater.com).
Mr. Brown (who captured the recent photo of a whale entangled in some type of line) spent much of Monday, Feb. 16 in the driving rain on the beach just east of LB's Marina Green...and captured the sights on this page.
Mr. Brown reports that at about 11:30 a.m., he saw this pelican on the beach...and it was unable to fly.

Mr. Brown says he phoned LB Animal Control (Animal Care Services) but no one answered. He tried 911 and was put on hold.

He flagged down a lifeguard who called for assistance and a second truck with two more lifeguards arrived.

An attempt was made to rescue the pelican...and although it couldn't fly, it fled into the sea, out of reach. It was last spotted in the storm-tossed water near the rocks at the end of the jetty at the entrance to Rainbow Harbor...seemingly too weak to scale the rocks.
[Mr. Brown says he'll be at the beach on Tuesday to see if the bird is alive.]
Here's what else Mr. Brown saw on LB's beach:

Some "waves" were visible...but they're not unusual in storms, Mr. Brown said. "Even with the breakwater, there are always small 'waves' on sunny days, although they're piddley little things. In a storm, the surge amplifies the small waves making them bigger, but they're still a lot smaller than other beaches," Mr. Brown said.
