(Feb. 7, 2010, initial report) -- A 20 year old man was found lying on an ELB street (2300 block Vuelta Grande) in the predawn hours today (approx. 1:05 a.m. Feb. 7) with a gunshot wound...and was pronounced dead at the scene by LBFD paramedics.
Initial information is very sketchy. LBPD spokeswoman Lisa Massacani says officers were called to assist LBFD Paramedics to a call of a person lying in the street (2300 block Vuelta Grande, between Palo Verde Ave. and Studebaker Rd., north of Stearns St.). He had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body.
The victim was a male Black in his 20s. His identity is pending from the L.A. County Coroner's office. There's no immediate suspect information.
LBPD spokesperson Massacani says it wasn't a "shots" call that brought PD to the scene; someone reported seeing the man lying in the street. At present [caveat, initial information] there don't appear to have been shots calls in the area...although that doesn't mean the victim wasn't shot there.
Where and exactly when the victim was shot is under investigation and undetermined for now. LBPD is asking anyone with information about this crime to call Homicide Detectives Malcolm Evans or Daniel Mendoza at (562) 570-7244.
