  • (Feb. 1, 2010, updated) -- LBReport.com is first (again) with the latest on campaign contributions received by candidates in the April 2010 LB city election cycle.

    The data cover the period from July 1-Dec. 31, 2009 and would normally be filed by Jan. 31, 2010...which this year falls on a Sunday, meaning the filing deadline is the next business day (Monday Feb. 1).

    Some candidates filed early and LBReport.com provides data below,

    7th district City Council

  • James Johnson's campaign reports receiving $30,485 between July 1-Dec. 31, 2009 (on top of about $53,000 received between Jan. 1-June 30, 2009). Of the 145 itemized contributions, 44 listed LB residence or business addresses. [Caveat: Listing either a residence or business address is legally sufficient, meaning some contributors listing LB business addresses may live outside LB, and some listing business addresses outside LB may live in LB.]

    The Johnson campaign spent a little over half of the $30k raised in the July-December period...leaving it with $57,864 as of Dec. 31, 2009.

    9th dist City Council

  • Vice Mayor Val Lerch's write-in campaign reported 84 contributions totaling $22,371...including $ received at a Sept. 30 fundraiser at the SE LB office of INCO (a commercial real estate firm) where former City Manager Jerry Miller is now officed (self-employed consultant/IMC Municipal Consulting). The event became more newsworthy when Lerch put a message on his Facebook page stating:

    "Great night, last night. Beverly O'Neill was great. What a wonderful person! Bob Foster was his ussual [sic] funny self. Good attendance. Lots of dollars for the cause. We will spend it wisely. Thank you, INCO, Brad, Bill, Laura, Jerry M and Jerry C I am in your debt," Lerch wrote. When LBReport.com asked about this, he said: "I am in no one's debt, it was a figure of speech. They helped put the event together."

    The Lerch campaign reported monetary expenditures of totaling $11,759 (most of it for graphics)...leaving it with an ending cash balance of $10,614 on Dec. 31, 2009.

    The Lerch campaign also reported non-monetary contributions that included $233 each from six individuals listed as INCO company owners ("food and drinks for fundraiser" 9/30/09), as well as $350 from Mike Murchison ("food and drinks at fundraiser" 7/20).


  • Brad Shore's campaign reported receiving $9,678, plus a $1,000 loan from Mr. Shore.

    His contributors included former Vice Mayor/Councilman Doug Drummond ($150). For a full list, click here.


    The campaigns of Dan Pressburg and Steve Neal are expected to file on Feb. 1.

    3rd dist. Council

    [update] Between July 1 and Dec. 31, 2009, Councilman Gary DeLong's campaign collected roughly $72,000 in contributions had had about $4,400 in expenses, leaving the campaign with a little over $68,000 in the bank at year's end. For details, see LBReport.com coverage, click here.

    Tom Marchese's campaign reported contributions totaling $700 as of Dec. 31: $350 from former 3rd dist. candidate (2006) attorney Stephanie Loftin and $350 from Reyna Akers.


    Terry Jensen (who entered the race in January 2010) has no reported contributions or expenditures online for the period ending Dec. 31.

    1st dist. Council

    [update] Between Jan 1 and Dec. 31, 2009, Councilman Robert Garcia's campaign collected a little over $26,000 in contributions had had about $13,400 in expenses, leaving the campaign with a little over $13,000 in the bank at year's end. For details, see LBReport.com coverage, click here.

    5th dist. Council

    Mike Hedges' campaign against Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske ended the period with expenses exceeding contributions (negative cash balance) by $261...after receiving contributions totaling $2,764. That total included $99 contributions from Councilman Gary DeLong, former LB Harbor Commissioners John Hancock, III and Roy Hearrean...and $500 from Mr. Hedges.

    Hedges' expenses during the reporting period totaled $3,024 for a voter data base ($2,724) and website design ($300).


    Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske's re-election campaign is expected to file on Feb. 1.

    City Attorney

    City Attorney Bob Shannon's campaign reported a $200 monetary contribution from Superior Court Judge Deborah Andrews...and two loans from Mr. Shannon personally to his campaign totaling $5,000.

    The campaign of his opponent, City Prosecutor Tom Reeves, reported no contributions or expenditures during the reporting period.

    City Prosecutor

    Tim O'Reilly's campaign for City Prosecutor reported now monetary contributions or expenditures for the reporting period ending Dec. 31.

    Doug Haubert's campaign for City Prosecutor is expected to file on Feb. 1.

    Mayor

    Neither Mayor Foster nor opponent Stevie Merino had filed campaign reports for the period ending Dec. 31 as of Sunday morning (Jan. 31)
