(Feb. 6, 2010) -- A quiet SE LB neighborhood witnessed a heavy police presence at predawn Saturday (Feb. 6) as LBPD (including SWAT), followed by the L.A. County Coroner, after a man shot and wounded a female familymember...and then took his own life.
The events unfolded in the area of the 6800 block of E. 10th St. (SE of Anaheim/Studebaker).
LBPD spokesperson Lisa Massacani says officers received a call at about 3:46 a.m. and responded to the area where an adult male had shot an adult female.
Patrol officers rescued the female victim who was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries...and SWAT was activated when the suspect refused to exit the residence.
After using tear gas and other aspects of their protocol, officers made entry to the residence...and found the suspect deceased from a gunshot wound, apparently self-inflicted.
Following the events, LBReport.com saw what appear to be tread marks from what we presume was a SWAT vehicle.
A Police Chaplain [volunteers from many faiths who are on call from LBPD] was visible at the scene at midmorning.
The incident is under investigation; anyone with information can contact LBPD Homicide Detectives Malcolm Evans or Daniel Mendoza at (562) 570-7244.
