(Feb. 7, 2010) -- The City Clerk's office indicates that on Friday afternoon (Feb. 5), the City Attorney's office requested withdrawal of Tuesday's (Feb. 9) agenda item that was to give a second (final) reading to a medical marijuana regulation ordinance...indicating it will be re-submitted for the Feb. 16 City Council agenda.
No other information was immediately available. As LBReport.com has previously noted, while second readings of ordinances are usually routine, the procedure is intended to allow Councilmembers to make changes before enacting a city law.
On Feb. 2, the Council approved a medical marijuana ordinance on first reading...including a slim majority decision (5-4) not to require that collectives grow their medical marijuana on site or elsewhere in LB.
LBPD urged that the medical MJ be grown within the city for law enforcement/control purposes...and the City Attorney's office also urged inclusion of certain measures.
A Council majority also voted against an LBUSD recommendation of the largest feasible buffer zones around schools, instead approving buffers of 1,500 feet from high schools and 500 feet from other schools.
