Belmont Shore Resident Shot-At Inside His Home (300 block Santa Ana) By Armed Man Accompanied By Two Other Intruders, All Wearing "Hoodies" Concealing Their Faces

Crime brought big police presence Tuesday; detectives following-up, investigation continues

(Feb. 1, 2012) -- Belmont Shore had a shooting yesterday ("no-hit") under circumstances now coming to light that are even more horrific than initially indicated.

A man armed with a gun -- who entered a home in the 300 block of Santa Ana Ave. on Tuesday morning (Jan. 31) and opened fire at a resident -- wasn't alone.

LBPD says today (Feb. 1) that there were three subjects involved in the crime.

(On map above: purple Xs = shooting/victim not hit; blue Xs = shootings/victim hit since Aug. 2/11 (date Mayor/Mgr released their proposed FY12 budget; red X=murders from Jan 1, 2011 to date [with murders at record low])

LBPD Public Information Officer Nancy Pratt says all three were wearing "dark hoodies that concealed their faces...and at least one of the subjects was a male."

The man living at the house -- on whom the intruder opened fire -- wasn't hit.

PIO Pratt says that after LBPD received a 911 call (8:35 a.m.), officers established a perimeter, brought in a K-9 unit and searched the residence...with no suspect(s) found.

Police also searched the area...but no suspect(s) were located.

LBReport.com first learned of the unfolding incident yesterday when a reader told us the area around Appian Way "was filled with cops" at midmorning.

The suspects are currently at large...and LBPD says its Detectives are following-up on the case and their investigation remains ongoing.

LBPD asks anyone with information about what took place to contact its Robbery Detail at (562) 570-7464. Anonymous tips may be submitted via text or web by visiting www.tipsoft.com.

LBPD also encourages residents to take a number safety measures:

  • Meet your neighbors which makes it easier to recognize a person that doesn’t belong, and neighbors that communicate are more likely to look out for one another

  • Report loiterers -- loitering is often a precursor activity for burglars, enabling them to case the area

  • Immediately report suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1 and be sure to get a good description of any subjects and/or vehicles

  • Keep any gates to backyards locked and secure at all times

  • Request a free "vacation check" by contacting the Senior Police Partner volunteers at (562) 570-7212
