UPDATE: LBPD Arrests Four Wilson High Students, Books Three On Allegations Of Attempted Murder Of Fellow Student in Feb. 29 After-School Assault Just Off Campus

Fourth student from Lynwood booked on allegation of destroying and/or concealing evidence

UPDATE: (March 1, 2012, 7:15 p.m.) -- Three students have been arrested for what police allege was the attempted murder of a fellow Wilson High School student, and a fourth was arrested for allegedly destroying and/or concealing evidence, following yesterday's (Feb. 29) afternoon assault just outside the campus on Ximeno Ave. just north of 10th St.

LBPD says in a release that at about 2:07 p.m., LBPD responded to the area of Ximeno Ave./10th St. regarding a fight resulted in a 15 year old male student being hospitalized.

[LBPD release text] When officers arrived, they discovered the 15-year-old male victim down on the ground that had been assaulted. He was immediately transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, a student at Wilson High School, was confronted by a group of male subjects and words were exchanged. The group then proceeded to assault the victim before fleeing on foot. The victim had not been involved in an on-campus incident earlier in the day.

Police investigated the incident late into the evening and arrested four (4) juvenile suspects who are also Wilson students. They are only being identified as follows:

AgeGenderCity of ResidenceBooking Charge
15MaleLong BeachAttempted Murder
16MaleLong BeachAttempted Murder
16MaleLong BeachAttempted Murder
15FemaleLynwoodDestroying and/or concealing evidence

LBPD's release says a motive for the assault is still under investigation but "etectives believe others may have been involved in the assault and are asking for anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone with information should contact Youth Services Detective Amy Garrett at (562) 570-1425. Anonymous tips may be submitted via text or web by visiting www.tipsoft.com.

Also this afternoon, Wilson students were "locked down" after receiving word that there may have been a non-student on-campus with a firearm; LBPD says its officers and Board of Education officers "conducted a complete search of the campus" (with LBPD's gun-sniffing dog) and no weapons were located...and normal school operations resumed.

UPDATE: (March 1, 9:15 a.m.) LBUSD spokesman Chris Eftychiou tells LBReport.com that a student was involved [the person LBPD says was assaulted] in a fight yesterday (Feb. 29) just off-campus from Wilson High School in the area of Ximeno Ave./10th St. Additional security is also on campus today (Mar. 1) as a precaution, Mr. Eftychiou says.
(Feb. 29, 2012) -- As reported (first again) on LBReport.com some type of assault (a fight) took place just after 2 p.m. in the area of Ximeno Ave. north of 10th St. just north of Wilson High School.

Police activity was very visible; we have pictures (first again) from an LBReport.com reader (thank you) and also several unofficial reports (which we can't confirm or corroborate for now)...but few official details as of early evening.

LBPD Public Information Officer Nancy Pratt says an incident occurred just shortly after 2 p.m. in which a male subject was assaulted at 10th & Ximeno -- not at school -- and was transported [to a hospital] with a non-life-threatening injury. A suspect is outstanding and an investigation is ongoing.

Following a community meeting at an ELB coffee house at early evening, LBReport.com asked LBPD East Division Commander Michael Beckman if he had any updates to information conveyed to us earlier by LBPD's PIO and he said he didn't.

Efforts to reach an LBUSD spokesperson were unsuccesful [we encountered what seemed like phone problems at LBUSD HQ].

Multiple questions remain unanswered thus far: Was the victim of the assault a student? Is the suspect a student at Wilson or elsewhere? How many people were involved in the assault? Were they students? Was the assault gang related? Were there any racial components to what occurred?

When LBReport.com finds out, we'll report it.
