Man Is Shot To Death on Sat. Nite, 1700 block Coronado (1 block west of Redondo, just south of PCH)

(Feb. 3, 2013, 12:05 a.m., updated 7:50 a.m.) -- Long Beach had its fourth murder of 2013 on Saturday night Feb. 2 entering the fifth week of 2013...and its the second in the 4th Council district since Jan. 1.

A man was shot to death in the 1700 block of Coronado Ave. one block west of Redondo Ave. and about half a block south of PCH (4th Council district).

[includes updated information] LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. David Marander tells LBREPORT.com that at about 9:44 p.m., officers were dispatched to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex in the 1700 block of Coronado Ave. On arrival, they found a man (adult) suffering from gun shot wounds...and LBFD personnel declared him deceased at the scene.

UPDATE: "Detectives believe this crime could possibly be gang related," an LBPD release states. "The victim has been identified as Frank Gordon (the third), a 21-year-old resident of Long Beach."

On Jan. 16, in LB's first murder of 2013, a man was shot to death almost exactly one mile due west in the 1700 block of Cherry Ave. just south of PCH (4th district).

On Jan. 21, a man was shot to death in the 1000 block of Gaviota Ave. (2nd Council district).

On Jan. 20, two people were shot (one fatally) in the 6400 block of Atlantic Ave. (9th Council district)

On January 22, the LB City Council (item agendized by Councilwoman Suja Lowenthal, joined by Vice Mayor Robert Garcia, and Councilmembers Andrews and Johnson) voted 8-0 (Schipske absent) to declare the start of an annual "Season for Non-Violence" (Jan. 30-April 4). The item urged Councilmembers to consider ways to host or promote events in their districts that [agendized recommendation] "demonstrate how every person can move our city in the direction of peace through their daily nonviolent choice and action."
