UPDATED w/ LBPD Info: Man Fatally Shot At Midday Friday In North Long Beach, Area 59th/Linden; Crime Scene Is Roughly One Block From "Uptown Renaissance" Project (Former Atlantic Theater/Future Library)



(Feb. 22, 2014) -- LBPD has issued a release indicating two individuals, described by police for now only as male Blacks [unclear if adults or juveniles] were seen fleeing on foot from the scene of yesterday's (Feb. 21) NLB fatal shooting (area 59th/Linden) first reported yesterday by LBREPORT.com:


[LBPD release text] On Friday, February 21, 2014, at approximately 1:55 p.m., Long Beach Police responded to a shots fired call near 59th Street and Linden Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

When officers arrived, they discovered the victim, identified as 24-year-old Christopher Lane of Long Beach, who had been struck by gunfire in the upper torso. He was transported to a local hospital by Long Beach Fire Department paramedics, and was determined deceased shortly thereafter.

Information gathered through the preliminary investigation indicated that two male Blacks were seen fleeing from the location on foot. A motive for the shooting is unknown, but the incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related.

(Feb. 21, 2014, 3:40 p.m.) -- In broad daylight at midday Friday, gunfire flew and police activity followed in the area of 59th St./Linden Ave...where a man (adult) was hit...and pronounced dead at a hospital.

In initial information, LBPD Public Information Officer Nancy Pratt tells LBREPORT.com that at approximately 1:55 p.m., officers responded to the area of 59th Street and Linden Avenue regarding a shots fired call A man (male adult) was located and transported to a hospital...where he was pronounced deceased.

LBPD is investigating what took place as possibly gang related; there's no immediate information available regarding a suspect(s).

It was LB's fifth murder of 2014, the second in NLB. Residents of the area tell an LBREPORT.com reader that multiple shots were heard in two volleys...and multiple police units responded.

The area is basically one block from where city officials gathered nearly exactly a month ago to announce an "Uptown Renaissance" as they celebrated demolition of the (now-former) Atlantic Theater to be replaced by a library.
