[LBPD release text] -- A Long Beach man suspected of possessing 36 kilos of cocaine, with a street value of approximately $2.8 - $3.6 million, was arrested in North Long Beach after a routine traffic stop.

On February 17, 2014, North Division Directed Enforcement officers stopped a vehicle in the 6900 block of Atlantic Avenue for a traffic related violation. Officers noted the driver seemed unusually nervous and was found to be driving without a license.

While conducting an inventory search of the vehicle incident to storage, officers located packaging material, which was consistent with packaging large quantities of narcotics. Officers found this to be highly suspicious and believed this may be related to drug sales.

The investigation led officers to the driver’s home in the 1100 block of E. 72nd Street, Long Beach. Officers and Drug Investigations Section detectives served a search warrant and seized the following items:

  • Approximately 36 Kilos (79.20 pounds) of cocaine
  • Over three pounds of methamphetamine
  • 1 handgun and ammunition
  • Over $3,000 cash
  • 1 stolen vehicle

The driver, 28 year-old Hildefonso Angulo, was arrested and booked for possession of narcotics for sales and is being held at the Long Beach Jail on $1,000,000 bail.

The Long Beach Police Department will continue their efforts in the fight against illegal drugs, which negatively impacts communities everywhere. Anyone wishing to report illegal drug activity should contact the Long Beach Police Department’s Drug Investigations Section at (562) 570-7221.
