(Feb. 19, 2014, 9:30 a.m.) -- LBREPORT.com has learned (because we asked) that the City Council vote in a November 5, 2013 closed session authorizing negotiation and potential acquisition of 205 La Verne Ave. was Deputy City Attorney Richard Anthony provided us with the vote tally and noted that the purchase is subject to contingencies, one of which is Council voted approval in a public session. LBREPORT.com inquired about the Council closed-session vote tally after a Feb. 14 city staff-prepared memo appeared online in connection with a Feb. 20 agenda item for the Belmont Shore Parking and Business Improvement Area Advisory Commission. The memo stated in part: "On November 5, 2013 the City of Long Beach City Council held a special meeting in closed session in conference with the City's real property negotiator regarding property located at 205 La Verne Avenue. As a result of the closed session, an offer letter was presented to seller of the property, and was accepted, subject to contingencies. The intent of this purchase is to construct a parking lot with eight spaces." The advisory Parking Commission meeting will take place Thursday Feb. 20 at 9:00 a.m. at Bay Shore Library, 195 Bay Shore Ave. A vote by the BSPBIAAC is advisory to the Council.
