(Feb. 19, 2014, 9:30 a.m.) -- LBREPORT.com has learned (because we asked) that the City Council vote in a November 5, 2013 closed session authorizing negotiation and potential acquisition of 205 La Verne Ave. was 9-0.

Deputy City Attorney Richard Anthony provided us with the vote tally and noted that the purchase is subject to contingencies, one of which is Council voted approval in a public session.

LBREPORT.com inquired about the Council closed-session vote tally after a Feb. 14 city staff-prepared memo appeared online in connection with a Feb. 20 agenda item for the Belmont Shore Parking and Business Improvement Area Advisory Commission. The memo stated in part: "On November 5, 2013 the City of Long Beach City Council held a special meeting in closed session in conference with the City's real property negotiator regarding property located at 205 La Verne Avenue. As a result of the closed session, an offer letter was presented to seller of the property, and was accepted, subject to contingencies. The intent of this purchase is to construct a parking lot with eight spaces."

The advisory Parking Commission meeting will take place Thursday Feb. 20 at 9:00 a.m. at Bay Shore Library, 195 Bay Shore Ave.

A vote by the BSPBIAAC is advisory to the Council. The Council itself makes the final call.
