(Feb. 28, 2015) -- With less than two hours to spare, the US House of Representatives voted (Feb. 27) to approve ONE WEEK stop-gap funding for the Dept. of Homeland Security on a 357-60 (included "yes" votes by LB area Dem Congressmembers Alan Lowenthal, Janice Hahn and Linda Sanchez along with Repub (former LB area) Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (now reps HB.) The result means another showdown vote(s) in less than a week.

The action came after House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D) reversed her position earlier in the day which discouraged Dems from voting for a three week extension and LB-area Dems Lowenthal, Hahn and Sanchez followed their leader, voting against the three week extension...which Repub Rohrabacher voted (following House Repub leadership) to support.

Earlier in the day, Dem House leaders discouraged Dem support for the three week funding extension, saying it would require revisiting the issue again in three weeks. Pelosi's 11th hour changed position means a showdown(s) will come again in less than a week but it enabled House Speaker John Boehner (R) to get the one-week bill through the House after some conservative House Repubs refused to approve the three week funding measure on grounds it failed to include provisions reversing President Obama's executive orders on immigation.

The 203-224 vote earlier in the day defeated a three week funding extension for the Homeland Security agency that had cleared the Senate without verbiage on President Obama's executive orders regarding immigration. Senate Dem leadership continues to press for a DHS funding bill that doesn't include any provisions related to President Obama's immigration executive orders.
