(Feb. 11, 2015, 5:15 p.m.) -- A large audience was present for today's scheduled meeting of the Los Cerritos Wetlands Authority, but the meeting (described below) was cancelled due to lack of a quorum. We're told it is expected to be rescheduled in the coming weeks.
(Feb. 11, 2015) -- This afternoon (Feb. 11), the governing board of the Los Cerritos Wetlands Authority (a government body that includes 3rd dist. Councilwoman Suzie Price) is scheduled to hear a presentation from, and possibly authorize entering into negotiations with, Synergy Oil and Gas in connection with the company's proposal to create a Mitigation Bank (generating credits that could be sold to developers of other projects) to fund/enable restoring large portions of the Los Cerritos wetlands. [Background / previous LBREPORT.com coverage (including video) at this link.] The Board will also discuss (possibly in closed session) the possible acquisition of the Bryant parcels (fronting 2nd St. east of Marketplace) and the Hitchcock parcel (south of Loynes, west of Studebaker Rd., see map below) And the Board will receive a report on the removal of homeless encampments in the area during 2014. The Authority has the ability to acquire and own real property, but doesn't have the power of eminent domain. It can also conduct wetlands restoration planning and implement the restoration. Today's meeting (Feb. 11) is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the LB Yacht Club (6201 Appian Way).
