(Feb. 24, 2016, 1:25 a.m., updated 3:05 p.m.) -- As flashed on LBREPORT.com's front page last night (Feb. 23), a dead infant was found in a North Long Beach alley on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 23).

Initial information is very sketchy. LBPD's Public Information Detail indicates that officers responded to the area of 67th St./Gardenia Ave. at about 4:22 p.m. to assist LBFD with the dead body of an infant, discovered by neighborhood residents as they were walking in an alley.

The child's body was surrounded by cardboard and debris and in a state of decomposition. LBPD's investigation is (of course) ongoing.

[UPDATE] In a release this afternoon (Feb. 24), LBPD asks for the public's help. "If anyone is aware of someone who was recently pregnant, but is no longer in that condition, and is not caring for an infant, we would like to speak with them."

Anyone with information is urged to call Homicide Detectives Peter Lackovic, Sean Irving, or Oscar Valenzuela at (562) 570-7244. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or text TIPLA plus your tip to 274637 (CRIMES), or visit http://www.lacrimestoppers.org/.
