See It: New Grocery Outlet -- Now Open -- In ELB At Spring St./Palo Verde (SE Plaza)

(Feb. 4, 2016) -- LBREPORT.com saw plenty of shoppers on opening day Thurs. Feb. 4 at the new Grocery Outlet 6436 E. Spring St. @ Palo Verde (SE Plaza).

Owners Jonathan and Jennifer Lawton, who ran Grocery Outlet locations in Northern CA, moved to Long Beach and were all smiles. Shoppers scrutinized prices and snapped up products, some at sizable discounts in a number of product areas.

The self-described "bargain market" offers daily basics as well as discounted items ("opportunistic" buys from overruns, changed promotional packaging on some name brands and the like) purchased in large quantities for savings (specific products will change with product availability.) The store also features a wine department with some sizable discounts.

The owners of the Long Beach Grocery Outlet tell LBREPORT.com they plan to hold an event at the El Dorado Restaurant (Spring St. @ Studebaker) in partnership with a different local non-profit group each month.

In addition, the LB Grocery Outlet will hold a community reception and fundraiser on Friday Feb. 5 at the El Dorado Golf Course (2400 N. Studebaker Rd.) with proceeds benefiting the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House. An event flier indicates that $10 brings 10 wine tastings, food, entertainment, a raffle and prizes. The event is 5-8 p.m.; program and raffle begin at 6:30 p.m.; pay for ticket entry at the door.

The new Grocery Outlet will also be part of a Saturday Feb. 6 event -- "Shop Spring St. Street Fair" -- highlighting the many merchants in the Spring St./Palo Verde four-corners shopping area...with merchants featuring raffles and other promotional items.

And part of the Saturday's event (and just a few steps west of Grocery Outlet in the Spring/Palo Verde SE Plaza) is the Paw Shoppe Pet Center, which encourages people to stop by for raffle tickets that could win a JetBlue flight.

Come to the Paw Shoppe for a special coupon that day" says the Paw Shoppe Pet Center website, adding "We now carry chicken supplies! First chicks to arrive early February" and "Dubia roaches are now available to delight your reptiles."

The Paw Shoppe Pet Center will be showcasing its many available animals and animal-friendly products and services at the Feb. 6 event.
