(Feb. 16, 2017, 5:35 p.m.) -- Long Beach Councilwoman Jeannine Pearce closed her City Council office today in solidarity with today's (Feb. 16) "Day Without Immigrants."

In a dispatch on her personal Facebook page, the 2nd district Councilwoman (who took office in mid-July 2016) wrote:

Our nation is a nation of immigrants, built by immigrants, and made great by immigrants. Today, the U.S. citizens have called for a day of action, in a "Day Without An Immigrant," therefor my office will be closed as my staff and I either are immigrants or come from immigrants. We encourage our community to stand in solidarity with those who have been marginalized in our community and help us raise awareness of important immigrants are to Long Beach.

We can be reached by email should it be an emergency, and we will return your calls tomorrow.

Please share stories of how immigrants you know have contributed to our great city.
