(Feb. 26, 2018) -- Long Beach had two shootings within less than two hours on Saturday night (Feb. 24), within roughly ten blocks of each other both now investigated as possibly gang related. In one (4th St./Cherry Ave., 2nd dist.), the victim was hit and survived; in the other (14th St./St. Louis [one block east of Cherry]), the shooter missed.

They were LB's second and third shootings within two days; on Feb. 23, a man (adult) was found deceased from a gunshot wound after crashing his car at the Anaheim St. onramp to the southbound 710 freeway (LBREPORT.com coverage here.)

LBPD PIO Sgt. Brad Johnson tells LBREPORT.com:

  • At about 11:45 p.m. on Feb. 24, residents in the area of 5th St./Cherry Ave. reported hearing shots, and LBPD dispatch received information that the victim (a man/adult) had walked into a local ER with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim reported he was shot in the area of 4th St./Cherry Ave.; LBPD recovered evidence at the crime scene.

  • At about 10:10 p.m. on Feb. 24, officers responded to the area of 14th St./St. Louis Ave. where a shooting allegedly occurred although the victim wasn't hit and pointed out a residence where the suspect was seen entering after the shooting. Officers detained several subjects from inside the residence; LBPD says the suspect was positively identified and arrested.
