(January 1, 2002) -- Celebrating LB's natural richness as well as their own political victory in saving the former Pacific Electric right of way from development, LB's Greenbelt Committee, with co-sponsors EcoLink & Surfrider Foundation, hosted the 4th Annual New Year's Day Greenbelt Celebration today
Under a wintry sun, supporters of the LB Greenbelt, which runs from 7th and Bennett to 8th and Termino in ELB, conducted walking tours of the area (above, Mary Blackburn points out native plant life).
LB ECO-link chair Diana Mann welcomed the group and opened the festivities.
Among those attending was Paul Racko, one of the LB activists who waged the successful political battle that won a City Council vote preserving the former Pacific Electric right of way as a greenbelt.
Also spotted in the crowd were Don May, Chairman of CA Earth Corps, and Amy Lerner, Director of LB Organic.
Attendees included a number of members of the LB Surfrider Foundation and prominent LB park and open space advocate Ann Cantrell.
