LBPD Received Roughly 118 "Shots Fired" Calls Between 10 p.m. Dec. 31 and 2 a.m. Jan 1...But Exact Gunfire Total May Be Lower
(Jan. 1, 2002) -- LBPD says it received approximately 20 calls that reported hearing "shots fired" between 10 p.m. and midnight on December 31, 2001 and approximately 98 calls reporting gunfire between midnight and 2 a.m. on January 1, 2002. LBPD Public Information Officer David Marander cautioned that the total of 118 "shots fired calls" in the four hour window surrounding the arrival of the new year does not provide a gun shot total with precision. Some calls may be duplicative, reporting the same incident. Others may not actually be gunfire but fireworks or other pyrotechnics. |
