LBPD releases picture of knife (we post it), ID's suspect as 57 year old LB resident
(January 20, 2002, updated Jan. 21) -- LBPD has released a photograph of the knife allegedly wielded yesterday by a woman on Pine Ave. near 4th St., who was shot by police after they say she refused repeated pleas to drop the knife, continued walking toward the heavily populated downtown business district and (weighing an estimated 300 pounds) was unphased by the officers' use of non-lethal "bean bag" rounds.
As previously reported by LBReport.com, LBPD said in a written release the woman raised her knife to a throwing position toward the officers, causing them to shoot her in fear for their safety.
She was transported to a local hospital where she died after undergoing surgery.
LBPD has told LBReport.com the suspect was a 57 year old African American woman, Marcella Byrd, of LB.
