(January 3, 2003) -- On New Year's Day, apparent gang graffiti were clearly visible in alleys within walking distance of LB's MacArthur Park, site of a planned January 11/19 event sponsored by LB's Dept. of Parks, Recreation & Marine that will feature a "mural collaboration and exhibit" with "the top 14 women graffiti artists of Southern California." The gang graffiti were visible in alleys just 1 block north and 3-5 blocks east of MacArthur Park. The alleys branch off 14th St. with some of the heaviest graffiti in an alley just west of Gardenia Ave. in the 6th Council district roughly half a block from its border with the 4th district.
