(January 29, 2004) -- A bank in the 5400 block of E. 2d St. in Belmont Shore was robbed on January 29 by a man wearing a ski mask and wielding a handgun.
LBPD Public Information Office Sgt. Paul LeBaron says this was not a "quiet" bank robbery (simply handing over a note). This suspect performed a "take over" robbery, entering the bank at roughly 9:44 a.m. and ordering everyone onto the ground, effectively seizing control for a period of time.
The suspect fled with some money...and because he was believed to have headed into the neighborhood, nearby Naples Elementary school was locked and students were kept in their classrooms (missed recess) as a precaution.
The FBI and LBPD are handling the investigation. The suspect description thus far: male wearing a ski mask.
Further to follow as newsworthy.
