POA staying out of 6th & 8th district races for now; may endorse if there's a runoff
(January 27, 2004) -- The Long Beach Police Officers Association has given its endorsement in the 4th district City Council race to Los Altos resident Patrick O'Donnell...who's challenging Council incumbent Dennis Carroll in the April 2004 election.
In a written release, the LB POA says it interviewed both candidates...and challenger O'Donnell "demonstrated a great deal of knowledge on a vast array of issues, including public safety, the airport, and neighborhood improvements."
The Police Officers Association added that "it became clear to the entire Long Beach Police Officers Association Political Action Committee that Mr. O'Donnell's level of commitment to the neighbors and to public safety is second to none."
LB POA President Steve James told LBReport.com that his group is staying out of the 6th and 8th Council district races at the present time. He added that the POA is more likely to endorse in the event of a runoff.
He added that his group may reschedule candidate interviews in the 2d district race following the Council's Jan. 26 3-2 vote opting not to declare Councilman Dan Baker reelected (despite the absence of another name on the ballot)...which leaves the door open to write-in candidates.
