(January 15, 2004) -- Fast work by LBPD North Division police officers has a suspect in custody following a January 14 early evening call of "shots fired" in the 400 block of South Street.
LBPD Public Information Officer Greg Schirmer tells LBReport.com that the victim, a 21-year-old male LB resident, was walking in an alley shortly before 7:30 p.m. when the suspect confronted him, pointed a handgun at him and threatened him.
The victim fled, and the suspect allegedly fired several shots at him...which missed.
The suspect summoned help...and after a suspect description was given, North Division Patrol Officer Peter Lackovic believed he knew the suspect through previous gang encounters.
Officer Lackovic was able to identify the suspect...and working with gang detectives, located and arrested a 25-year old suspect (described by police as a known gang member) in the 1200 block of Michelson St.
The suspect is now in the LB jail in lieu of $1,055,000 bail.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact LBPD's Gang Detail at (562) 570-7370.
